Conferences I’ll be attending in the US
I’ll be attending the following four conferences while in the US – the last three all overlap and happen back-to-back in the same city:
- On-Guard Conference: Defending your Faith with reason and precision (See here) – Nov 5th and 6th in Dallas Texas. Some of the speakers and topics include:
- Dr. Craig Hazen “Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?”
- Dr. Paul Nelson, “The Power and Promise of Intelligent Design in Biology”
- Sean McDowell, “Equipping Young People with a Biblical Worldview”
- Dr. J.P. Moreland, “The War of Worldviews”
- Dr. Mike Licona, “Can We Really Trust the Gospels”
- Dr. William Lane Craig, “The Case for the Existence of God”
Every single one of these speakers has been on my list of highly respected teachers – and have listened to or read 4 out of 5 of them so I can’t wait to hear them in person!
There is also the advantage that I’ll stand out in the crowd as the one “who came all the way from New Zealand” – so I’m hoping to use this to start building connections before the larger EPS Convention two weeks later where most will be speaking again.
Then there are the three in Atlanta, Georgia:
-
Evangelical Philosophical Society (EPS) Annual Convention (See here) – Nov 17th to 19th. Most of this convention will be way over my head, as the material is at a very high scholarly level. But I’m looking forward to the ‘between sessions’ time when I’ll get to meet and greet some of the top people in the field of Christian Philosophy.
-
Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting (See here) Nov 20th to 23rd. Am looking forward to one presentation in particular, and that is of our own Dr Mathew Flannagan (see here for details). A very exciting opportunity for Matt to represent New Zealand’s apologetics community.
- Annual EPS Apologetics Conference (See here) – Nov 18th – 20th. This is more of a main-stream apologetics conference (much like the ‘On Guard’ one in Dallas – but much bigger) – again with some top speakers I’ll be trying to meet – including:
- Dr. Alvin Plantinga “Religion & Science: Where the Conflict Really Lies”
- Dr. William Lane Craig “The Evidence for Christianity”
- Dr. Gary R. Habermas “Shroud of Turin: Evidence for the Death and Resurrection of Jesus?”
- Mr. Randy Newman “Conversational Evangelism”
- And once again our own Dr Flannagan is speaking at one of the break-out sessions (see here for more).
All-in-all, it’s a great line-up of some of the most intellectually stimulating speakers and Christian Philosophers the world has to offer. Am really excited!
